Welcome to the Homepage of the International Women`s Club Karlsruhe

The International Women's Club Karlsruhe is one of around 30 Clubs within the Federation of German-American Clubs (FGAC) and was founded in 1957 as "German-American Women's Club. Due to Karlsruhe's world-wide educational, cultural institutions and business institutions, the town attracts a multitude of international people who are reflected in the membership of the IWC. The Club was therefore re-named "International Women's Club" in 1968 and today comprises around 300 members from over 30 countries.

Its mission is to advance international understanding and to support the German-American Student Exchange and Youth Program as organized by the FGAC. Likewise the Club strives to support the welfare of children, young people, the old and sick as well as the handicapped.

The funds for this financial support are generated from the Pfennigbasar, an event which has acquired national cult status. The extremely large proceeds enable the Club to support these various causes.

The Club actively funds the Student Program of the FGAC which is the largest private German scholarship provider for German-American student exchanges. Tolerance, internationalism and flexibility are prerequisite for a successful life, and the study year funded by the FGAC which enables gifted German and American students to visit each other's university furthers just these values. The Youth Exchange Program which we also help finance follows similar aims.

International Friendship in our Club is writ large and is enriched by numerous interest groups, cultural programs and society events (see News and Club). The main annual events during the Club year are the Pfennigbasar in January followed by the first large Funds Presentation in May. We meet again for our Autumn Tea after the summer break and celebrate Thanksgiving at the end of November. Final funds, this time for children's organizations, are presented during our festive Christmas Tea. At present our official meetings take place at the KIT Guest Lecturer's House and grand events at the Karlsburg Castle in Karlsruhe-Durlach.

Hopefully we have aroused your interest. You can find contact details on the Club page. I very much look forward to hearing from you!
