Welcome to the Homepage of the IWC Karlsruhe
The International Women’s Club of Karlsruhe is one of over 30 Clubs within the Federation of German-American Clubs / FGAC. It was founded in 1957 as “German-American Women’s Club” and re-named “International Women’s Club” in 1968 to express its aims for international understanding and co-operation. As Karlsruhe started to host international organizations comprising the cultural, educational, research and industrial sectors, the Club was confronted with new challenges and today has around 300 members from over 30 nations.
Our mission is to advance international understanding, to support the German-American student- and youth exchange as organized by the German-American Clubs, as well as the promotion of common tasks for the good of children, youth, disabled and needy persons.
The FGAC is the largest private scholarship provider in Germany. In our view it is most important to enable talented German and American students to widen their horizons in addition to their normal studies. Openness, understanding for others and the courage to react flexibly towards changes are important challenges for the new generation. Therefore, the pupil exchange which we also finance should not be underestimated.
International Friendship is fostered by numerous interest groups, cultural programs and social functions.
Important events in the Club year in Karlsruhe are the ‘almost cult status’ "PFENNIGBASAR" in January, the Funds Presentation in May where proceeds from the "PFENNIGBASAR" are distributed, the Autumn Tea after the summer break, “Thanksgiving” – naturally – and last but not least - the “Christmas Tea” where the remaining funds are distributed. Official meetings such as the Members’ Meetings take place at the Guest Lecturer’s House of the KIT (University Karlsruhe) and grand events at the Karlsburg Castle in Karlsruhe-Durlach.
Hopefully we have aroused your interest and would love you to get in contact with us.
